Since this year’s reunion on March 17th will be a special event, it is proposed to form an Old Pals choir for the day to make it a more festive occasion. The choir will sing a couple of songs, one sacred, one secular, and proceedings will be rounded off with a rendering of the old school anthem “Ad Astra”.
In order to form the choir, volunteer singers (S/A/T/B) are required. Since there will be limited time available for practice, volunteers must have experience of choral singing and be able to perform to a reasonable standard. If you are so qualified, and interested in participating, please complete the tear-off slip below and return it as soon as possible. Alternatively, you can contact me via the email address given.
Music: it is currently proposed that we sing Handel’s “Zadok the Priest” as the sacred piece and “Tequila Samba” as the secular item. These are to be found in “The New Church Anthem Book” and “Encores for Choirs” respectively. There may be copyright issues with reproducing the music, so it would be helpful if at least some volunteers already have these books – please indicate if this is the case.
Practice: with volunteers living in different parts of the country, meeting up to practice will obviously be a problem. We would like to hold one rehearsal before March 17th, followed by a final session on the morning of the reunion. I realise this may not be feasible for some people but please if at all possible attend the practice, which will be held at the school at 14 00 on Saturday February 11th.
The music side of the event will be handled by Marie-Clair Goswell, who has extensive experience in singing and conducting choirs. I am simply coordinating the event.
Yours sincerely,
Bob Moss, SGS 1956-64
